The music program for the younger students combines singing, movement, and rhythmic development. We also spend time learning about composers and basic music theory.
In the upper-elementary grades, we build on the basics learned in the lower grades. We incorporate all of the elements of music; dynamics, harmony, instruments, meter, melody, rhythm, tempo, and timbre to see how music is put together. We study
classical composers as well as modern music. We also have a 4th-6th grade chorus that performs twice a year: in winter and
spring.
In the middle school levels, we concentrate on the more advanced aspects of music. While we still study music theory and music
history, we take it into the 20th century by using computers. We use composition software to compose our own music. In this way
we are putting all of our knowledge into practical application. We also have some students who play instruments in the school
band. This also helps us in learning about music.
