Physical Education classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays at St. Basil's. Students are required to wear a gym uniform to school on the day of their class. The Archdiocesan curriculum guidelines for physical education are followed in all classes. These guidelines include basic skills development and activities such as basketball, soccer, hockey and kickball. The students also participate in the President's Physical Fitness Challenge. All activities stress teamwork and good sportsmanship. Classes are either held outside or in the gym.
During November, classes will continue, as long as weather permits, to be outside. All classes will learn the skill sets for the sports of Soccer and Ultimate Frisbee. Please make sure the students have sweat shirts and pants for gym class. A water bottle is also suggested for class. During the month of December, all classes will be performing the physical fitness testing for the President's Physical Fitness Challenge. The tests include Curl-ups for muscular endurance, V-sit for muscular flexibility, Pull-up/push-up for muscular strength and Shuttle Run for Cardiovascular (anaerobic) Fitness. The students will learn how to measure their heart rates and calculate their target exercising heart rate. Skill development for the sport of Basketball will begin after the physical testing concludes.
